I hope all you mom’s across the world had a wonderful day. You guys rock for everything you do for us. In the words of a close friend of mine…. “Without all of you, there wouldn’t be all of us.” Thank you for everything you do for us.
I can’t believe how quickly time seems to fly these days. A week ago I competed in my first race. Remember the Snow to Surf Adventure Relay Race I talked about in my previous posts? I survived it and my team did awesome. Say hello to the Cheeky Monkeys.
The weather was great that day. It was a little bit cool in the morning, but I didn’t mind since I get warm when I run. I just had to make sure to stay warm while I waited for my leg of the race to begin.
Once I heard my team’s number being called, I knew that Sarah was only 1 km away. The adrenaline started pumping and I was rearing to go.
Sarah passed the blue wristband to me and off I went. It was a tough run, I have to admit. Since there was still a lot of snow on the mountain, they had to change my route a bit. I ended up road running about 6km downhill and then 2km downhill on a rough logging road. The road running part was tough…my shin splints ended up acting up, so I ran on the shoulder of the road to absorb the impact. It was much better.
Coming down the last part of the trail…it was steep, so I was trying not to roll my ankle and wipe out.
This was at the next changeover…after passing the wristband to Amy, she continued on a 12km mountain biking leg.
I was so happy to be done….8km in 40 minutes…my best time ever. My legs hurt and my feet were on fire. I developed some blisters along the inside arches of both feet. Note to self…take out my arch supports BEFORE running downhill.
Here are a few more shots from the race…..
We placed 158th out of 204th….. 5 hours and 22 minutes. We were very happy with our results. Next year we have a goal of 5 hours, which means we have to try and shave 3 minutes off of each leg. I definitely think it’s possible. The race was a blast. A great way to end my end my 30th birthday year.
Saturday, May 7th was my 2nd Race day… this event was called the Mud Run Ride Race.
Welcome to McIvor Lake. This was the site of the race, and the cold lake I took a dip in to try and get rid of some of the mud after the race. (Trust me..it was necessary when you are covered in a layer of mud from head to toe)
This event involved teams of 2. Me and my partner had to alternate between running and mountain biking. We had to switch riding/running at a series of challenges along the course. The course was a total of 10km. The final challenge at the finish line was a large inflatable wall and slide that we had to climb over together. Then there was a rather cold and muddy mud pit that we had to crawl through before crossing the finish line.
The running part was the challenging part for me, as my legs were still not 100% since the Snow to surf run I did 6 days before. And I only fell off the bike once… a rather graceful dive into some bushes. However, we had a blast and I definitely want to do this one again next year.
We completed the course in 1 hour and 12 minutes and placed 38th out of 54 teams. Once again, very happy with our results and again a new goal to set for next year.
I don’t have any pictures of the event yet, but hoping to get some before weeks end.
Now on to some food……..
It was my 31st birthday on Wednesday and so I decided it was a great time to splurge and buy myself something new. Plus, I get back a rather nice amount from my Income Taxes, so that helped with the bill.
Drum Roll please…………………
My previous BBQ was on it’s last legs.
So for dinner tonight was a meal to celebrate the new addition to my family…
Juicy and tasty Moose Burgers
Truffled Grilled Asparagus
Fire roasted Red Peppers.
The complete meal…so tasty.
Hope you enjoyed my recap from the last week. It’s time to rest my body, let the blisters heal and nurse my knee back to health (I wrenched it slightly on the trail run).
Have a wonderful start to the week and be back soon.
Bea
xoxo
